Communication in Equine Assisted Learning

We have moved this to an online course which begins on Monday 11th May 2020. The course is for facilitators who wish to work towards the new national qualification, the OCNLR Level 4 Certificate in Facilitating Equine Assisted Learning (qualification number 603/0601/4).

Entry Requirements
You need to:

  • be over the age of 19
  • have attended an Introduction Day
  • have had a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
  • and have completed or be working towards the unit: ‘Handling and Managing Horses in Equine Assisted Learning’.

Who can enrol?
Only those people who have attended an Introduction Day and have completed or are working towards the unit ‘Handling and Managing Horses in Equine Assisted Learning’ are able to enrol on this course.

When you begin the course we will assess your skills in English, Mathematics and Information Technology.

I haven’t attended those units, what do I do?
If you haven’t attended any of the training listed above, then you need to register on one of the Introduction Days. See the Events page for details:www.equineassistedqualifications.com

What does the course cover?
Course sessions cover the unit:

  • Communication Skills for Facilitators of Equine Assisted Learning

There will be discussions, theory and practical activities as well as observed teaching practice, case studies and assignments. You will put together a portfolio of evidence to show how you have met all the assessment criteria. As part of this portfolio, your performance will be observed via video link if face to face sessions are not possible and your communication skills will be assessed by your assessor.

Progression route
Once you have completed this unit you can progress to the unit 'Safeguarding in Equine Assisted Learning' and then the last three mandatory units in the OCNLR Certificate in Facilitating Equine Assisted Learning Level 4. These are:
Planning Equine Assisted Learning
Managing Learner Behaviour in Equine Assisted Learning
Facilitate Equine Assisted Learning for Individuals and Groups.

"I really enjoyed the horse sessions they help me every day I work with the horses. I notice more and talk less."

"The email lessons are a brilliant idea they help to keep you focused and you get added info which adds learning and practice and reinforces what you have already done.”
